TCBS Distance Education Privacy Policy
TCBS is committed to academic integrity and to protecting the privacy of our students. This policy explains how TCBS verifies student identity in Distance Education courses and protects related information, consistent with federal requirements (34 C.F.R. § 602.17(g)(1)) and TRACS accreditation standards.
Current Status
TCBS does not currently offer Distance Education courses or programs. All instruction is delivered in person at our Vallejo, California campus. This policy is posted in advance so that our institutional practices are transparent and ready to comply with federal and accreditation requirements from the date any Distance Education course is first offered.
Identity Verification
Should TCBS offer a Distance Education course, we will verify that the student who registers for the course is the same student who participates in, completes, and receives credit for it. Verification methods may include a secure login and passcode, proctored examinations, or other technologies that reliably confirm student identity.
Verification Charges
If an identity verification method involves an additional charge, such as a proctoring fee, TCBS will notify the student of that charge at the time of registration, before the charge is incurred.
Protecting Your Information
Any information collected to verify student identity, including login credentials and proctoring records, is treated as a confidential student education record protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). This information is accessed only by TCBS staff with a legitimate educational need and is not shared for any purpose unrelated to verifying student identity and academic integrity. Any third-party verification service TCBS may use in the future will be required to safeguard student information consistent with these same standards.
Data Security
We take reasonable administrative, technical, and physical measures to protect personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Children's Privacy
