It is our joy to announce that Dr. Stephen J. Wellum, professor of theology at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, will be teaching this year’s summerim class: Christ from Beginning to End: An Introduction to Biblical Theology (ST 731). The class will be held August 9-13, 2021. Here is the class description:

Grasping the Bible’s unity requires that we take Scripture on its own terms and categories while carefully tracing the contours of the Bible’s developing storyline from Genesis to Revelation. This course will examine the foundational principles used in developing a sound biblical theology while also considering the theological implications that flow from our understanding of how the Bible fits together with Christ at the center.

Dr. Wellum received his Bachelor’s degree from Roberts Wesleyan College and his M.Div. and Ph.D. from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He is the editor of The Southern Baptist Journal of Theology and the author of God the Son Incarnate: The Doctrine of Christ (Crossway), The Person of Christ: An Introduction (Crossway), Christ Alone: The Uniqueness of Christ as Savior (Zondervan), and co-author of Kingdom through Covenant: A Biblical-Theological Understanding of the Covenants (Crossway), and Christ from Beginning to End: How the Full Story of Scripture Reveals the Full Glory of Christ (Zondervan). Prior to serving at Southern Seminary, Dr. Wellum taught Northwest Baptist Theological College and Seminary and has pastored churches in South Dakota and Kentucky.

We are excited to have Dr. Wellum serve us this summer. Registration for this class is now open. You may register through your Populi account.

Please feel free to contact Derek Brown our academic dean (dbrown@tcbs.org) with any questions.

Below is a selection of Dr. Wellum’s books.

From Amazon: Kingdom through Covenant is a careful exposition of how the biblical covenants unfold and relate to one another—a widely debated topic, critical for understanding the narrative plot structure of the whole Bible.

From Amazon: In this addition to the Short Studies in Systematic Theology series, Stephen Wellum challenges [contemporary] claims as he argues for the divinity of Jesus according to Scripture and in line with creedal Christianity. In this brief introduction, we are invited to rejoice in the centrality of Christ—who as both God and man reconciles us to God.

From Amazon: …this latest volume in the Foundations of Evangelical Theology series lays out a systematic summary of Christology from philosophical, biblical, and historical perspectives—concluding that Jesus Christ is God the Son incarnate, both fully divine and fully human.

From Amazon: In Christ Alone, Stephen Wellum considers Christ’s singular uniqueness and significance biblically, historically, and today, in our pluralistic and postmodern age. He examines the historical roots of the doctrine, especially in the Reformation era, and then shows how the uniqueness of Christ has come under specific attack today.
